The Student Council consists of eighteen students ranging from Second Year to Leaving Cert.
Candidates must declare their intent to run for the Student Council. They are then tasked with presenting their ideas and plans to their own year group. Students are elected after these presentations by the students in the year group.
The role of the Student Council is:
- To represent student views to management.
- To be recognised as partners in policy development.
- To work in partnership with the management of the school to improve school atmosphere, conditions and facilities.
- To provide students with opportunities of leadership.
- To improve communication between staff, students and management.
The Student Council attends a three hour training programme to spring board the year into action. During their training they discuss their ideas and opinions, they outline their aims and what they wish to achieve throughtout the year. They also complete team building tasks during their training which allows students from different years to bond.
Each year the council is presented to the school and awarded the Student Council Badge at the first gathering of the whole student body at the opening of the year Mass in September.
