Comhairle na nOg

Comhairle na nOg students from Mount St. Michael recently joined Comhairles from all around the country at a showcase in Croke Park where each Comhairle had an opportunity to display and discuss the work they had done.

At the showcase every Comhairle had a board displaying pictures and a summary of what they had done around their main theme. There were many themes, some of which were mental health, LGBT+ rights, equality and homelessness. Mayo Comhairle's theme was equality, and on the board were pictures from events that were held such as Comhairle talks.

At the showcase students mixed with other Comhairles, before going into a main hall. Here the MC was Katherine Thomas, and Minister for Children and Youth Affairs Katherine Zappone delivered a speech. This was followed by two Comhairle members telling their own personal stories. After lunch the delegates attended workshops, where they were put into groups of five and circulated between different colour coded tables, discussing topics regarding school and how to resolve the issues arising. Following the workshop session all the delegates went back into the main hall where MC Katherine Thomas presented two representatives from each Comhairle with an award for the work the Comhairle had done over the past year. Overall it was a great day that many enjoyed!
