Ladies Gaelic Football

Mount St. Michael enters three teams each season in the Post Primary Schools’ Championship: Under 14’s, Juniors (U-16) and Seniors (U-20).

Through regular training and competitive matches, the players learn about the importance of teamwork, selflessness, friendship, physical fitness and mental strength.

Mount St. Michael teams are always very competitive and wear their jersey with pride! The 2009/2010 season saw Mount St. Michael's Senior team win a first ever All-Ireland Schools Football Final when they captured the Tesco Senior B Post Primary Schools Championship. This success was just reward for a remarkable team. In 2016-2017 and 2017-2018, the senior team reached the Connaught final and were unlucky to be beaten on both occasions. In the 2021/22 season our Senior team reached the All-Ireland B final, but unfortunately lost to a very strong team from Ulster. The 2022/23 season promises to be an exciting and busy one!

The school is benefiting hugely from the wonderful development of the football pitch which cost €100,000. The pitch is now the envy of many a school in Connaught.

Mount St. Michael footballers have won the prestigious Connaught Post Primary Schools Player of the Year award. Sarah Tierney captured the title when she captained the Senior All Ireland winning team in 2010 and Aimee Bell won the coveted award in 2011.

Training for all teams takes place on Friday afternoon from 1.30pm until 2.45pm. Extra training sessions are organised when there are no games.

Many thanks to Ms. Emma Galligan and Ms. Laura Brogan and other volunteers for their hard work and commitment to developing Gaelic Football in our school.
