BT Young Scientist Success in Mount St Michael, Claremorris.
There was great excitement in Mount St Michael, Claremorris as the school welcomed back a total of six award winners after their success at the BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition in Dublin last week. The award ceremony was broadcasted live on the BTYSTE Facebook page. 17 students from the school originally applied to the BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition.
Seven students represented the school while the other ten students spent a day in Dublin viewing the exhibition and supporting their friends. It was a momentous occasion with so many memorable moments, least of all meeting President Michael D Higgins and his wife Sabina who has been invited back to the school!
Here are the award winners and their project titles:
Aoibheann Mangan in Leaving Cert was the winner of Senior Individual: Health and Wellbeing Category. Aoibheann’s project was titled Enhancing Inhaler Technique Proficiency and Adherence in Pediatric Asthma Patients through Machine Learning-Based Intervention - A Comprehensive Study of Misuse Patterns and Technological Solutions. Aoibheann also scooped the Health Research Special Award for her project.
Mary-Lilibeth Curry-Glynn in Transition Year was awarded 2nd place in Intermediate Individual: Health and Wellbeing Category. Mary-Lilibeth’s project was titled Safety in Your Hands: A Mobile Application Integrating Location-Based Equipment Discovery and Comprehensive First Aid Education to enhance overall Emergency Response Outcomes.
Both Aoibheann and Mary-Lilibeth were interviewed by Deric Hartigan and appeared on Ireland Am as part of their coverage of BT Young Scientist this year.
Cassie Griffiths Blitger in Leaving Cert won the Jack Restan Special Display Award in the technology category. Cassie’s project Revolutionising human flight - The Pursuit of Human Wings with Reengineered Ornithopter also featured on the Six.One News. Dublin Airport Authorities took a huge interest in Cassie’s project and have invited her to do a tower jump from their tower and visit their head office at Dublin Airport.
Ms Stephanie Hogan won Teacher of Excellence for Health and Wellbeing. Stephanie is the lead mentor in Mount St Michael.
Mount St Michael 1st Year team of Meta Alisauskaite, Leen Joma and Vanesa Liepa-Samoška were highly commended for their project BREATHE: Nurturing Adolescent Mental Wellness – A Tech Solution to Reduce Stress and Anxiety Among Teens.
Órlaith Heaney in Leaving Cert presented her project titled Analysing the Impact of Curvature and Other Mitigating Road Factors on Rural Road Accidents: A Comprehensive Study and really impressed the judges. Órlaith has been invited to join the RSA’s Youth Council due to her research.
The staff and students in Mount St Michael are immensely proud of all of our students who took part. The school would like to say a special thank you to both Ms Hogan, lead mentor MSM and Iseult Mangan, regional manager of Teenturn, for all their hard work and dedication.
