ART

The Junior Cert Art, Craft and Design syllabus aims to develop the expressive, communicative and functional modes of the student. Investigative drawing and research is the central activity in the syllabus and links with 2-D (painting and graphic design), 3-D, Options, (craftwork) and Support Studies in art history. Drawing is used for thematic ideas, designs and research.

Assesment is through a personal thematic project during the examination year and a drawing examination of an object and a person.

The Leaving Cert Art course is as broadly based as that of the  Junior Cert. Again drawing and other research are used to develop work in imaginative composition/still life, Design and Craft work (Calligraphy, Book crafts, Poster, Weaving, Lino printing, Puppetry, Screen Printing, Hand printed textiles, Batik, Pottery or Embroidery). Drawing the human person is also an element of the course. History and Appreciation of Art is included in the course to afford students an opportunity of showing awareness of the place of visual arts in our culture and community.

Assesment is through 3 practical examinations, Still life/Imagination, Craft/Design and Life Drawing and also History and Appreciation.
