Background to the Youth Assembly at Dail Eireann

The houses of the Oireachtas/RTE Youth Assembly on Climate brought 157 students from across Ireland to the Dail Chamber to discuss how Ireland needs to address the climate crisis, establish the next urgent steps for Ireland and present them to the nation through the Proclamation on Climate. The special Dail sitting was broadcast on RTE News Now and Oireachras TV. The delegates were divided into six groups to facilitate debate on six different topics.

After the day of debate and discussion about what Ireland needs to do to tackle environmental issues The Minister for Communications, Climate Action and the Environment, Mr. Richard Bruton, was presented with the 10 recommendations. Presenting the recommendations to the minister, Co. Dublin student Salim Kajani said they did not come into the Dáil for nothing, and he said he hoped Minister Bruton could at least consider the proposals and implement something in keeping with their demands.
